Malpensa to Milan: The Smart Traveller's Guide

There are four ways to get from Malpensa Airport to central Milan. Three of them will frustrate you. Here's why a private transfer is the only sensible choice — and how to make it seamless.

Malpensa Airport sits 49 kilometres northwest of central Milan. It is served by every major airline and handles over 28 million passengers per year. Yet getting from the terminal to your hotel in the city centre remains, for most travellers, the worst part of the trip.

Here is an honest comparison of your options.

Option 1: Malpensa Express Train

The pitch: Direct rail link to Milano Centrale (or Cadorna), hourly departures, 52 minutes journey time.

The reality: You must get from your gate to the platform with your luggage. At Terminal 1, this involves two lifts, a walkway, and a queue to buy a ticket (€13). The train is rarely full but never luxurious. At Centrale, you then need a taxi or metro to your final destination.

Verdict: Acceptable for light travellers staying near Centrale. Not appropriate for business travel.

Option 2: Malpensa Shuttle Bus

The pitch: Buses depart every 20–30 minutes to Centrale and Cadorna. Cheap (€8).

The reality: Journey time is 75–90 minutes in normal traffic, 2+ hours with congestion. Luggage space is limited. You share the coach with 50 other people.

Verdict: Budget option only.

Option 3: Taxi

The pitch: Available outside arrivals, fixed rate approximately €95 to central Milan.

The reality: Queues of 30–60 minutes at peak times. Drivers vary in quality and route knowledge. No guaranteed vehicle comfort. Payment by card is often refused.

Verdict: Adequate in emergencies.

Option 4: Private Chauffeur Transfer

This is, simply, the correct way to travel.

What happens when you book with Limo Milano:

1. Flight monitoring — your driver tracks your flight in real time. If you land 40 minutes early or 90 minutes late, the car adjusts. 2. Meet & greet — your driver is in arrivals with a name board, ready to take your luggage. 3. Zero waiting — you walk from customs to a vehicle that is already running. 4. Guaranteed comfort — the vehicle you booked is the vehicle that arrives. 5. Door to door — your hotel, your office, your villa. No onward connections.

Pricing

Our Malpensa–Milan city centre transfers start from €95 for a sedan, €115 for an SUV. This compares favourably with a taxi, eliminates all uncertainty, and turns 49 kilometres of motorway into a productive or restful first hour in Italy.
